Ixtapa is a great location for fishing. You can try your luck by chartering a boat and going out between 10 and 12 miles, where you can fish for Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, Dorado, Striped Marlin and Blue Marlin. You can also try fishing just offshore and will usually catch black-skipjack tuna, green jacks, dorado, and sierras about ½ mile from the shore. Ixtapa fishing options also include deep sea fishing. When you book a deep sea fishing charter, you can spend the day fishing for Marlin, Wahoo, large Dorados, Tuna, Sailfish and Marlin.
An Ixtapa fishing charter can be booked for anytime of the year, but if you want to fish for a specific species, you have to know what months are best for catching them. For example, some fishermen like to go out for Wahoo, but this fish is usually caught when fishing for another species, so it's kind of hit or miss. When you are saltwater fishing in Mexico, you have to have a fishing license that can be purchased before you start fishing in Ixtapa.
